The City of Charles Sturt is proposing a blanket 40km/h speed limit right across the following areas:
Albert Park
Royal Park
Hendon
Cheltenham
Semaphore Park
West Lakes Shore
Henley Beach (south of Marlborough Street)
Fulham Gardens (north of Cheadle Street & west of Tapleys Hill Road)
This petition is for the council to leave the current speed limits in place in those areas in the City of Charles Sturt proposed to become 40km/h based on the following:
- the State Governments' 'SA Road Safety Strategy to 2031' does NOT call for metropolitan councils to impose area wide 40km/h speed limits
- a change to 40km/h will lead to CONFUSION AND DRIVER STRESS due to speed limits no longer being consistent with those applied in streets with the same characteristics in neighbouring suburbs controlled by other councils
- a change to 40km/h will NOT stop hoon driving
- the change to 40km/h will require the placing of large, ugly speed limit signs in streets right across the areas proposed, NEGATIVELY impacting the visual aesthetics of streetscapes.
If you live in any of these areas, believe this new slower speed limit is not necessary and want to sign the petition against this proposal please fill in the form below and click 'submit' before 9:00am on Thursday the 16th of February.
